A Bunch of Five

My top 5 of 2011 in no particular order –

Gardens & Villa

I managed to catch them when they came to Birmingham in November. An amazing live show it was… and there’s a review right here if you don’t believe me! Their self titled debut album is a great listen, awash with west coast psychedelic vibes and strong melodic hooks.

Metronomy

Yeah these guys have been around for a while but what an album ‘The English Riviera’ was… it was deservedly nominated for the 2011 Mercury Music Prize. The band are touring the UK throughout February 2012 and delivered one of the most memorable performances of the year on Jools Holland –

Class Actress

I really like Elizabeth Harper’s sound – she’s an acoustic singer song-writer type gone electro pop and her delicate vocal style over the backdrop of all those synths is a really interesting mix. Her debut album is called ‘Rapprocher’ and came out towards the end of the year…

I’ve been kicking meself cause i missed the last two in my list who were on tour together in November! Both produced critically acclaimed debut albums in 2011…

Unknown Mortal Orchestra

Foster the People

…I hope they both come back to England soon!
